There's a particular kind of job I've always been drawn to - the negotiation that's stalled, the business losing money nobody can pin down, the programme that's come off the rails. It's the same pull that kept me racing bikes competitively for years: nobody does it for an easy afternoon, you do it because you love the grind.
Close to two decades now, moving between boardrooms and building sites, spreadsheets and depots - negotiating deals, then rolling up my sleeves to implement them. I've sat with owners at the hardest moment in their business - sell up, or go all in - and helped them see the numbers clearly enough to decide with confidence. Commercial rigour, with genuine care for the people on the other side of it.
When I'm not working, I'm usually chasing a golf swing, giving time to a cause I care about, or losing an hour in front of a painting. It's a different kind of focus to the day job, but it's the same underlying thing - showing up properly, and seeing it through.
If you're in the middle of something complicated - a deal, a business, a programme that's stopped making sense - that's exactly where I can help.

Experience
-
Nearly two decades spent building businesses, delivering capital programmes, and sitting alongside owners through their hardest decisions. My background blends commercial negotiation, on-the-ground delivery, and a genuine interest in the people behind the numbers - which is why clients tend to bring me in when things have gotten a little complicated.
-
I take on the programmes that have gone sideways, or the ones that are too complex and too high-stakes to hand to just anyone. That means getting into the commercial terms and the operational detail - depot logistics, supplier negotiations, training, rollout - and staying with it end to end. I don't just advise from the boardroom; I'll implement on the ground when that's what's needed, then hand over cleanly once it's running.
-
Every business has at least one problem it's been avoiding. I like understanding the problem, why it's actually happening, and working through it with the people who'll have to live with the solution. It's less about a fixed methodology and more about genuine curiosity - asking the questions that get past the surface numbers to what's really going on.
-
Sometimes the hardest decision an owner faces isn't operational, it's personal - sell the business, or keep investing in it? I work through the cost structure, the sales, the wage model, whatever's really driving the numbers, until the picture is clear enough to make that decision with confidence. I bring commercial rigour, but I never lose sight of the fact that it's someone's life's work on the table.
